title=Hinrich Lohse died
desc=Reichskommissariat Ostland is a mostly peaceful, profitable, and somewhat Germanized state, all thanks to one man: Hinrich Lohse. A World War I veteran, one of the first Party loyalists to join the NSDAP in 1923, and High President of Schleswig-Holstein, it was not surprising that Lohse was appointed Reichskommissar in July 1941, considering his close ties to high-ranking Nazis such as Alfred Rosenberg. From then on, he ran Ostland flexibly, delegating much of the necessary work to his most loyal and competent subordinates. This strategy has paid off handsomely, as Ostland is one of the most Germanized, profitable, and stable of the Reichskommissariats. As long as these men relied on Lohse's control and acted as a figurehead, the system worked. However, poor health took the worst of it, and in recent years Lohse has gradually become less prominent. With him, his unifying presence fades, and his subordinates have realized this. With Lohse's already limp hand growing weaker, the subordinates who once served him loyally are now beginning to crave his position with increasing eagerness.
